All roads lead to Boulia this weekend as the iconic camel races return to the community.

Organisers are promising two days and three nights of wild racing, outrageous fun, and unfiltered Outback spirit.

Celebrating 27 years of dusty mayhem, the Boulia Camel Races has cemented its place as the “Melbourne Cup of camel racing”, but it’s the unique Aussie larrikinism that keeps thousands returning each year.

“Boulia isn’t just where the camels run – it’s where Outback legends are made,” says Shelley Lorensen, president of the Boulia Camel Races.

“This year’s program is our biggest and boldest yet, and we can’t wait to welcome visitors back under the big sky.”

Camel racing kicks off on Saturday with progressive heats across multiple distances, as jockeys from around the country go head-to-head in this uniquely challenging sport.

The adrenaline builds across the weekend, culminating in Sunday’s grand finale: the Pacific Fuel Solutions Cup.

At 1200m, it’s Australia’s longest camel race.

Another highlight of the weekend is the Great Australian Ride-On Mower Race, which invites locals and visitors to push the limits of lawn-care engineering.

With points awarded for speed, creativity and downright lunacy, this race proves that with a bit of bush ingenuity, even a humble ride-on mower can become a racing machine.

Quickly becoming a crowd favourite, the Boots and Jocks Race is back for its second year.

Competitors strip down to their undies and boots and take to the track in front of a roaring crowd.

It’s become a staple of the weekend for those willing to trade modesty for a shot at glory – and a whole lot of laughs.

Debuting this year, the Truck Pull Challenge will pit teams of five against a full-sized truck.

It’s a test of teamwork, strength and sheer determination.

As the sun sets, the soundtrack of the Outback comes alive.

Headlining this year’s entertainment are Missy Lancaster and Billy Gudgeon, whose high-energy performances have made them staples in the Aussie music scene.

Saturday night ends with a bang with a stunning fireworks display.

And for those after a bird’s-eye view of the Channel Country, scenic helicopter rides will be available throughout the weekend – a breathtaking way to experience the vast beauty of the region.

Free, unpowered camping is included in every weekend pass.

With hot showers, food vendors, bar facilities and plenty of good company, it’s the perfect way to soak up the full Boulia experience.

Events and activities start on Friday evening and finish on Sunday afternoon.
