The dust has settled, the yabbies have been rehomed, and the tiny town of Kajabbi is still buzzing after a spectacularly successful revival of the yabby races.

The event, held as the major fundraiser for Zonta Rodeo Queen Quest entrants Chloe Kalbfell and Krystal Wright, drew a crowd of around 300 and raised a substantial amount for charity.

“We auctioned off 24 yabbies for a total of $15,450, with five lucky winners sharing $7725 in prize money,” Chloe said.

“On average, each yabbie sold for $583!”

The Kalkadoon Hotel, led by publican Jeff Bambrick and his team, served as the perfect backdrop for the festivities, keeping attendees refreshed with cold drinks.

The atmosphere was further amplified by MC Todd and band We Love Vinyl, who kept the crowd entertained into the night.

The event’s success was a testament to the dedication of numerous volunteers who travelled to Kajabbi to lend their time.

Generous sponsors also played a crucial role, with their donations making the day possible.

Chloe also praised her teammate Krystal and her “Krusaders” for riding the “crazy journey” with her, calling it the “biggest event” she’s ever pulled off.

“The Kajabbi Yabbies used to be an annual event, and now that we’ve restarted it, we would love to see it continue,” she said.

“However, it can’t happen without a charity taking it on.

“I’m happy to put my hand up to support any charity group who would like to take it over.

“If you’re interested, please reach out to me or Jeff at the Kalkadoon Hotel.”
