Cloncurry junior bull rider has a bright future
The teenager made it back-to-back wins with success in Cloncurry and Mount Isa.

Bronzon Mara-Skellern could be a cowboy to keep an eye on after the Cloncurry product picked up another Mount Isa buckle in the junior bull ride on Sunday.
Following success at last week’s Curry Merry Muster, where he won the Allan Cusack Memorial Junior Steer Ride, the 15-year-old was all smiles as he exited the arena.
“I’m pretty proud of myself. It took a bit of effort to get here,” he told North West Weekly.
“I had to ride a bull in the first round, try and get a high enough score for it, and then work my arse off in the last round to win it.
“I’ve won mini bull rides here before but this is my first junior bull ride win.
“It feels very good – I’m still a bit shaky.
“That last bull almost pulled me down a few times ... it took a bit to get back up and keep going.”
Mara-Skellern attends boarding school at Columbia Catholic College in Charters Towers and comes from a strong rodeo family.
“My uncles and my grandfather, and my mum, they all used to do rodeos,” he said.
“I just kind of grew up doing it.
“This year, I’m trying to make my way back up to the junior finals again and try to win that.”
Mara-Skellern said he wasn’t sure what to make of the fanfare of being paraded in front of the crowd on the back of a Bell and Moir Toyota Hilux.
“It’s a little bit embarrassing, but at the end of the day, I just took home the junior bull riding title for 2025 at the Mount Isa Rodeo,” he said.
