Green-thumbed Mount Isans will be able to indulge their passion for all things horticulture at next week’s Go Green Isa Day.

The Mount Isa City Council event will be held at the Mount Isa Mines Entertainment Centre at Buchanan Park, on Saturday, May 31, from 9am to 2pm.

Residents who had previously registered with council to be allocated free plants will be able to collect their saplings and herb or veggie seedlings on the day.

The saplings comprise a variety of native plants – including wattles, callistemons, banksias, eucalyptus and grevilleas – as well as citrus and fruit trees.

All of the plants have been kindly supplied by local business Leichhardt River Nursery.

There will also be kids’ activities, information stalls, entertainment, interactive workshops, giveaways, and food and drink stalls.

“The event highlights the benefits of using native plants and the importance of recycling in our city,” said councillor James Coghlan.

“It also aligns with World Environment Day, celebrated globally on June 5, supporting our commitment to a greener and more sustainable future.”
