First responders have been given expert training to better equip themselves in case of emergency.

On Saturday, CareFlight visited Mount Isa to conduct a complimentary simulated trauma care training for local health and emergency service professionals, first responders and volunteers.

The program was funded by Glencore Queensland Metals.

Continuing CareFlight’s mission of delivering trauma care workshops to communities across Australia, each scenario was focused on bolstering local resilience, enhancing local emergency preparedness and therefore, improving health outcomes.

Emergencies often push local health services to their limits, and the first people on the scene are frequently community members.

CareFlight’s workshops offer hands-on, scenario-based trauma care training using lifelike medical mannequins and simulated accident scenes.

The sessions equip participants not only with lifesaving skills but also enhances their leadership, teamwork, situational awareness and communication, essential capabilities for effective emergency response.

Tariq Sappideen highlighted the importance of accessible emergency training for the region.

“The first few minutes after an incident can be the difference between life and death. First responders play a vital role, often arriving before medical professionals,” he said.

“By partnering with local organisations, we’re reinforcing the links in the chain of survival to ensure better care is available as soon as the incident occurs.

“CareFlight’s complimentary workshops act as a boost for the emergency services and are an example of our commitment to building resilience in regional communities.”

CareFlight’s trauma care workshops are specifically designed for first responders and community members who are often the first on scene.
