Minister for Northern Australia and Resources Madeleine King will finally make it to the North West after she confirmed her presence at the Meeting of the Mines in Cloncurry.

Cloncurry Shire mayor Greg Campbell says he’s delighted to have secured federal Minister for Northern Australia and Resources Madeleine King for next month’s Meeting of the Mines conference.

It will be Ms King’s first appearance in the North West, despite being sworn in to her portfolios more than three years ago.

“I’m really pleased that her first visit to the North West is to Cloncurry because I believe we are the tip of the spear for Northern Australia development,” Cr Campbell said.

“Whether it’s our great agricultural potential and what we deliver already with the beef industry, or whether it’s our mineral potential, and that’s phosphate, copper, gold, lead, silver, zinc, you name it, we’ve just about got it.

“So we’re really pleased she’s accepted the invitation and I’m looking forward to seeing her come and meet our community and then the people charged with getting the resources out of the ground.”

Joining Ms King at the Meeting of the Mines on September 11 and 12 will be her federal shadow counterpart Susan McDonald, as well as the state Minister for Natural Resources and Mines, Dale Last.

Cr Campbell said there was also a broad range of speakers from the private sector, including Nev Power and Evolution Mining’s Matt O’Neill.
