Ernest Henry tug-of-war raises $60,000 for charity
The much-anticipated annual event brought Ernest Henry employees and contractors together.

Evolution Mining Ernest Henry Operations’ D Crew has reigned supreme in the mining company’s tug-of-war fundraising event.
The much-anticipated annual event brought Ernest Henry employees and contractors together to raise an incredible $60,000 for Starlight Children’s Foundation Australia.
Now in its fifth year, the tug-of-war was once again a resounding success. Teams of employees and contractors faced off in friendly but fierce battles, all with one goal – to help grant wishes for children supported by Starlight. One of Starlight’s children was this year’s special guest and even joined in on the action, pulling with one of the teams to loud cheers from the crowd watching on.
Now in its fifth year, the tug-of-war was once again a resounding success. Teams of employees and contractors faced off in friendly but fierce battles, all with one goal: to help grant wishes for children supported by Starlight.
Accompanied by his brother and a Starlight representative, they also enjoyed an extensive surface and underground tour to learn about Ernest Henry’s operations and experience the famous Outback hospitality across the weekend.
“The night could not have happened without the generous support of sponsors, participants and everyone who donated through raffles, auctions and donations,” a company spokesperson said.
“Their invaluable support helped provide an incredible amount that will go directly to granting life-changing wishes for children and families doing it tough.”
Last year’s victors proved once again they are too strong, with the Mobile Maintenance Team “Tug Life” retaining the coveted winners’ title and trophy.
Starlight Children’s Foundation partnerships executive Rachel Falwasser said she was astounded with the fundraising effort.
“This is what true mateship looks like, everybody coming together to help bring joy and hope to seriously ill children. It’s about pulling together – and not just on the rope,” she said.
“We can’t thank the Ernest Henry crew, community and sponsors enough for helping Starlight continue to bring smiles to sick kids and their families across Queensland and around the country.”
Ernest Henry Operations general manager Jason Floyd congratulated the organisers and teams on another successful event.
“Once again, D Crew has pulled off another fantastic fundraising tug of war event,” he said.
“The winning team Tug Life may have taken home the trophy, but I think we can all agree the real winners are the children who will benefit from the wishes made possible by this fantastic event.”
