Darcy Campbell will be out to test the nerves of Cloncurry and Mount Isa showgoers in the coming fortnight.

Darcy Campbell says some people can get so frightened in the sideshow alley Ghost House that they lose control of their bodily functions.

For almost two years, Darcy has travelled the country acting as the “chief scarer” on the Ghost House ride on the show circuit.

He will be returning to Cloncurry this weekend and Mount Isa the following weekend as the show comes to town.

Armed with the infamous mask worn by Jason from the Friday the 13th horror movie franchise and an imposing butcher’s hook, Darcy lays in wait for those brave enough to walk inside the Ghost House at sideshow alley.

He said it was common for people to wet themselves, but he has never forgotten a middle-aged man in New South Wales who wrecked a good pair of pants when Darcy jumped out of the darkness.

“The guy tried running the other way but his accident kind of stopped him in his tracks,” Darcy recalls.

The carnie said little boys had the craziest reactions, admitting he had been punched and kicked on a few occasions.

At 190cm, Darcy said his audition for the role consisted of walking into the room and looking as imposing as possible.

“The boss said pretty much right away that I looked like Lurch from the Addams Family and that was it – I had the job,” he said.

“He’s been calling me Lurch ever since.

“I love working in this job and it is the best way to see Australia. I was in Mount Isa and Cloncurry last year and the people there are so much fun.

“I am definitely looking forward to testing them out in the Ghost House.”
