There was loud applause at Buchanan Park on the Sunday afternoon of this year’s Mount Isa Mines Rodeo – and there wasn’t a bucking bull in sight.

Instead, the applause was for the announcement that the winner of the Art Union Prize Draw came from a 4825 postcode.

That just happened to be Olivia Riggs, who wasn’t at the rodeo on Sunday, but was thrilled to have won first prize, a Toyota LandCruiser Prado valued at $99,386.

Runner-up David Bale is also a Mount Isa local and he was just as happy after winning, a Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, valued at $50,055.

The main prizes were part of a long-standing partnership between Bell and Moir Toyota and the Mount Isa Mines Rodeo.

In fact, Bell and Moir and Mount Isa Mines are the only two original sponsors of the event that are still digging deep to support Mount Isa’s iconic rodeo.

Ms Riggs praised her boss, who bought a ticket in the Art Union Prize Draw for her and all of her colleagues.

“Honestly I wouldn’t have had the opportunity unless it was for my boss,” she said.

“I feel very blessed. I think the man upstairs definitely had to play a part in that.”

Mount Isa Pro Rodeo chair Mark “Tommo” Thompson congratulated the winners and thanked Lee and Linda Pulman for their support of the draw and rodeo.
