Mount Isa is set to come alive with a vibrant program of events for NAIDOC Week, running from July 6 to July 13.

This year’s national theme, The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy, will be a central focus, honouring the profound contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and looking towards the future.

The week kicks off on Sunday with a flag raising ceremony hosted by Kalkadoon PBC at the Mount Isa Civic Centre from 8.30am, featuring a Welcome to Country and guest speakers.

The day also includes a special NAIDOC Mass at the Good Shepherd Parish from 7.30am.

On Monday, there will be a QPS flag raising event at the Mount Isa Police Station at 10am, including a light morning tea.

In the evening, Good Shepherd Parish will host a men’s group barbecue from 5.30pm. Later, the Injilinji Corporation will host their annual NAIDOC Cultural Trivia Night at the Overlander Function Room, starting at 6.30pm.

On Wednesday, Gidgee Healing will host the 50 Years of NAIDOC Elders Luncheon at the Overlander Hotel from 11.45am, an invitation-only event.

One of the highlights of NAIDOC Week is the march through the city, starting from Outback at Isa at 9am and finishing at the Mount Isa Civic Centre.

Following the march, the MOB FM Family Fun Day will take place on the lawns of the Civic Centre from 10am to 4pm, featuring live entertainment, cultural dances, food, drinks, art, and information stalls.
