The Mount Isa Agricultural Show Society (MIASS) is calling for volunteers, performers and entries for its popular pavilion competitions and displays.

There is a wide range of categories for the pavilion competitions that will be displayed at the show, which will be held on June 20 and 21 at Buchanan Park.

“I think there is a category for everyone,” MIASS president Anne Pittis said.

“Whether you enjoy baking or photography or gardening or handicraft, we would encourage people to get in contact with us or go online and look and what categories they might qualify for.

“We know there are a lot of talented people in Mount Isa who have lots of hobbies they work on at home.

“This is a real opportunity for people to show off that talent.”

Ms Pittis said the pavilion cast a wide net to showcase local talent, with even a scarecrow building competition.

“This is an opportunity to show your creativity,” she said.

Ms Pittis said MIASS was also looking for volunteers to assist with setting up the show in the week prior to the event and also to assist with the post-show clean up.

“We have about one week to set up everything we need for the show and then we also only have one day to pack it all away,” she said.

“So any assistance anyone can provide would be very welcomed.

“If we had some guys who were skilled at coordinating and directing people because there are usually a lot of outside people arriving.

“We have fencing panels to put up and hessian tarps to erect and we need to mark out where the sites will go.

“Then anyone who is willing to come and help us clean up and stack things and pack it all away, even if it was just a few hours, that would be really appreciated.”

The show society will also be operating a community stage, which will showcase a steady flow of performances during the day from local groups.

“If there are any community groups or cultural groups that want to showcase what they do, then the community stage is a good opportunity,” Ms Pittis said.

“We would encourage everyone to get involved.”
