Looking for something to occupy the kids over the summer period?

Troy McMahon says the Mount Isa Heat Swim Club is the perfect place to send them.

“We’ve got all levels of swimmers, from national and state representatives to those who don’t have much experience at all,” he told North West Weekly ahead of the club’s season launch next Wednesday.

McMahon, who is the club president and one of four coaches, said swimming was a popular sport, particularly with girls.

“We had between 40 and 50 kids last year and we’re hoping for a few more this season,” he said.

“Every Wednesday night is club night, which involves races over 25m and 50m, and we have training squads on other days of the week for those who are interested.”

Families interested in finding out more should turn up to the Splashez Aquatic Centre next Wednesday for the Heat Swim Club’s come-and-try social night.

“It doesn’t matter what your ability is because we’ll train you and help as much as we can,” the president said.

“We get support from Swimming Australia and Swimming Queensland who send up Olympic coaches throughout the year to help guide our members, and we also go away for swim meetings, so there are some good incentives to join up.”
