North West product Joshua Hullock is set to captivate international audiences once again as he prepares for his third performance at the prestigious Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

The remarkable achievement is a testament to Joshua’s dedication and journey in music, which began at Mount Isa School of the Air.

Joshua’s musical exploration started with the recorder and violin, learning “over the air”.

His path took a turn when he attended Scots PGC College in Warwick, where he transitioned to the pipes and drums, focusing on the tenor drums.

Under the guidance of his drumming teacher and mentor, Alexander Manfield, Joshua was encouraged to “always aim higher”.

His talent quickly gained recognition. In 2022, Joshua was invited to join the Brisbane Boys’ College to perform at The Royal Edinburgh Tattoo in Scotland, an experience that “opened up the world stage” for him, according to his mother Kaylene.

After graduating in 2023, Joshua successfully auditioned again for the Tattoo, earning a spot in the 2024 Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo Pipes and Drums – a select band of only 75 members from around the globe.

His upcoming performance marks his third time participating in the 75th Tattoo.

The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is an iconic annual event held on the esplanade of Edinburgh Castle in Scotland.

It showcases military pipe bands, drummers, dancers, and display teams from around the world, performing a spectacular show of music, precision, and pageantry.

The Tattoo is renowned for its vibrant atmosphere and draws thousands of spectators nightly.

This year, Joshua will be performing in 26 shows, playing to an audience of 9000 spectators at each.

Ms Hullock expressed immense pride in her son, hoping his story will inspire others “to reach for the stars as all things are possible!”.

Joshua is also a member of the Warwick Thistle Pipe Band and has auditioned for the Brisbane Royal Military Tattoo next year.

The tour will feature performances from more than 1000 artists at Suncorp Stadium on 12-15 February.

It is the exclusive Australian leg of the Tattoo’s anniversary show, The Heroes Who Made Us, celebrating the event’s rich history and spotlighting local heroes.
