More than 3000 people flocked to Hughenden over the long weekend for the Festival of Outback Skies – making it the biggest and best festival yet.

Now in its third year, the festival has cemented itself as one of North West Queensland’s most vibrant and family-friendly events, bringing locals and visitors together to celebrate country life, creativity, and culture.

From the ever-popular bull ride and fishing competition to the unforgettable Sunday night Yirendali cultural performance of the Moonda Nurra Rainbow Serpent, this year’s program delivered something for everyone.

The sold-out Dinner Under the Stars dazzled 600 guests with its Vegas-themed magic, while hands-on workshops, art, inflatables, and raft races kept the whole community buzzing.

Flinders Shire mayor Kate Peddle praised the entire community for once again delivering an event that showcases the best of the region.

“The Festival of Outback Skies continues to go from strength to strength,” she said.

“This year’s record attendance is a reflection of the pride and passion our community pours into the event.

“I want to thank every volunteer, performer, organiser, sponsor, and visitor who made the 2025 festival such a special celebration of who we are. To see our town come alive with colour, culture, and connection is something truly special. Hughenden should be incredibly proud of.”

Cr Peddle said the council was continuing to receive glowing feedback from attendees, with many commenting on the welcoming atmosphere, smooth organisation, and the quality of entertainment and experiences on offer.

The Festival was made possible through the generous support of sponsors, including platinum sponsors Iberdrola, MITEZ, Festivals Australia, Tourism and Events Queensland, and Kpat Hotels.

“Council extends a heartfelt thank you to everyone involved – from event partners and community groups to the many volunteers who gave up their time to help bring the festival to life,” the mayor said.
