Queensland Police Service have released images of the vehicles allegedly involved in Friday's fatal traffic incident near Doomadgee as they call on the local community to provide information to police.

Acting Superintendent Paul Austin spoke to the media in Mount Isa today where he provided an update.

"As we're aware, a 30-year-old woman and a 10-year-old child were killed in that crash," he said.

"There were three other children that were conveyed to hospital. One of those children remains in a critical condition in Townsville Hospital.

"Two are currently in stable conditions, but also in hospital.

"The police are working with family to ensure the care or continued care of those children."

Acting Superintendent Austin said a 28-year-old man remained in police custody, but no charges have yet to be laid.

"Police have finalised the forensic investigation of the scene and so the Doomadgee Road is now open for vehicular traffic," he said.

"We have transported both of those vehicles to Mount Isa where they'll be placed into the police holding yard for further forensic examination.

"We're prepared to release (footage of the vehicles). Now, it's very graphic footage. As you can well imagine, there was a significantly catastrophic crash that caused the outcome that we are well aware of.

"So we want to make a plea to the community – anyone who saw those vehicles or have dash cam footage – to contact the Doomadgee Police or, alternatively, the Mount Isa Police if they haven't already been spoken to.

"There's also the capability for them to ring Police Link on 131 444 or alternatively, Crime Stoppers, which is 1800 333 000."

Acting Superintendent Austin would not be drawn on when/if charges would be laid against the man in custody, who has been transferred out of the Doomadgee community.

"As the investigation is ongoing, we leave it to the investigators to identify that we have the right evidence for the appropriate charges," he said, while confirming the man was the partner of the deceased woman and the children involved in the incident.

Additional police have also been sent to Doomadgee to provide support.

"There have been specialist police have been deployed to Doomadgee. A lot of those police are still on the ground whilst the investigation continues," Acting Superintendent Austin said.

"We have police here in Mount Isa supporting (them) and the investigation itself. So we have those specialist services on ground.

"It is a significant incident. It was a catastrophic crash. Our intention is to be extremely thorough.

"We will not rush (the investigation) and I suppose the finalisation of that investigation will sit with the investigators themselves.

"I'd just like to again thank the Doomadgee community for their support. Certainly, the grief that is being experienced as a result of this incident has been extreme and we will continue to do whatever we can to support the community through this time."
