The St Kieran’s Catholic School fete is back for Mother’s Day.

The popular event will kick off at 6pm at the school grounds on Friday, May 9 with food stalls, a cent sale and plenty of last-minute present options for the special mums in the community.

St Kieran’s prep teacher Kellie Pigliafiori said it was the first time the fete had been held since the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It’s always been a popular and really great family event, so we are happy to bring it back,” she said.

“There is a good selection of food with spring rolls, hamburgers, hotdogs, hot chips and international food like noodles and fried rice and curries – I think a lot of people like to come because of the good selection of food on offer.

“We have our beautiful Mother’s Day baskets that will be on sale to give to mum or grandma on the Sunday and there is a major raffle and cent sale stall to win different prizes.”

Mrs Pigliafiori said the event had a special focus on celebrating 40 years since the school moved to its current Short Street location.

“Originally the school was called the Brothers College and it was over where Good Shepherd currently is. The school was moved to our current site in 1985,” she explained.

“We are going to have a 40th anniversary wall that will have memorabilia and photos from the past years, so we have some former students who are looking forward to seeing that.”

Mrs Pigliafiori said the money raised at the fete went into buying equipment for the school.

“In the past we have bought prayer tables for the classrooms, school books for the library, sporting equipment and outside tables,” she said.

The major raffle prizes include two return flight tickets to Brisbane and two tickets for a four-day Whitsundays cruise as well as $500 cash.
