Tobacco shops forced to close during rodeo weekend
Queensland Health slapped the closure notices on two Mount Isa stores following raids.

Two Mount Isa tobacco stores were shut down for 72 hours on the eve of the rodeo after health officials conducted surprise inspections last week.
Queensland Health said details such as the quantity of seized products could not be provided due to pending legal action.
“Queensland Health’s Central Compliance Team inspected stores in the Mount Isa region to assess compliance with the Tobacco and Other Smoking Products Act 1998,” a spokesperson said.
“On August 7, Queensland Health issued 72-hour interim closure orders to two stores in Mount Isa, due to the serious and repeated breaches, including the supply of illicit tobacco and illicit nicotine products.”
Customers in Mount Isa turned up to buy tobacco products on Friday morning to find notes on the doors of two stores, saying they were closed for 72 hours.
They reopened on Monday.
“Queensland Health has issued 130 closure orders across Queensland since November, with five stores ordered by the court to close for six months and a further store ordered to close for five months.”
