Together We Walk event to raise awareness of suicide prevention
A walk to remember those lost to suicide and to promote suicide prevention will be held on Wednesday, September 10.

A walk to remember those lost to suicide and to promote suicide prevention will be held on Wednesday, September 10, with Mount Isa residents encouraged to take part.
The Mount Isa Suicide Prevention Network is organising the Together We Walk event, which will be held as part of World Suicide Prevention Day.
The event – previously called the Out of the Shadows Walk – will begin at 6pm at the Frank Aston Hill carpark on Marian Street, opposite the Mount Isa Village shopping centre, with people asked to gather at 5.30pm.
It will make its way along Rodeo Drive and finish up on the front lawns of the Civic Centre on West Street, where there’ll be a sausage sizzle and guest speakers.
There’ll also be resources and information available for people who may be bereaved by suicide or know someone who is, or who may want to talk to someone.
Network spokesperson Candy Blackwell said participants will be walking with round paper lanterns.
“The idea is that we’ll be remembering those that we’ve lost to suicide and showing our support for those who are struggling,” Ms Blackwell said.
“It’s coming out to show that there’s hope, and people are in support of those who are struggling.
“It’s an event that we’ve had previously, but we’ve given it a bit of a new name this year.”
She encouraged people to come along and take part as allies and show their support.
“We’re aiming to reduce the stigma around seeking help and talking about difficult things like suicide, to make it a little bit safer and a little bit easier for people to reach out for help when they need it,” Ms Blackwell said.
The Mount Isa Suicide Prevention Network can be found on Facebook and Instagram.
