Mount Isa Rugby League has had a third draw for the season after Brothers and Town were deadlocked at 34-apiece on Saturday night.

In a see-sawing contest, it was Brothers who flew out of the gates to lead early, only for Town to wrest back the momentum and take the lead.

In a match where tempers flared, Brothers were able to fight back with late tries to level the scores and walk away with a point.

All three teams in the men’s competition now have two draws to their ledger.

Very little splits the teams on the ladder either and Town coach John Doyle said he was keen to see his side secure the minor premiership and lock in a grand final berth.

“We’ve only got two games left before the finals – this week against Wanderers, a bye, and then one more game against Brothers,” he said on Tuesday.

“Any of the three sides can end up on top of the ladder, which is pretty good.

“But we definitely want that spot because we know the finals are going to be hard to win with everyone making themselves available.”

Doyle said his players showed plenty of resilience against a fired-up Brothers attack on Saturday.

“No one wanted to give an inch; you could see the passion,” he said.

“I thought we showed courage and toughness. They have some big forwards and we allowed them to get some momentum late in the game and couldn’t hold them out.”

The coach praised the efforts of 17-year-old Jamaron Mothe.

“He would be lucky to be 70 kilos but he handled himself so well,” said Doyle.

“He started on the wing but then we shifted him to fullback and he stood up for us.”

Mothe will soon represent Good Shepherd Catholic College in the Confraternity Carnival.

All eyes now turn to the clash between Town and Wanderers this Friday night.

The game has been moved due to the long weekend.

“They did a bit of a poll to see if it should be Thursday or Friday night because it’s going to be a long weekend,” Doyle said.

“I think its a good thing to play on Friday night and clear the weekend so people can relax and spend time with their families.”

The match will start at 7.30pm at Alec Inch Oval. Entry is free.
