While the Mount Isa Mines Rodeo is famous for its bucking bulls and broncs, the true heart of the event beats strong with the dedication of its volunteers.

Among them, Edna Russell and Caryll Evans stand out as bona fide legends, embodying the spirit of community that defines the iconic rodeo.

For over 16 years, these two powerhouse women have faithfully volunteered at the competitor and camper back gate, ensuring smooth operations behind the scenes. Their commitment to Mount Isa runs even deeper, with both having dedicated more than 40 years to the Mount Isa Show.

This year, Edna and Caryll are spearheading the Art Union prize draw, selling tickets with their signature smiles to raise vital funds.

Their extraordinary dedication hasn’t gone unnoticed; last year, they were each presented with a coveted Mount Isa Mines Rodeo Buckle, one of the highest honors in rodeo.

As best friends who even share a birthday, Edna and Caryll epitomize the volunteer spirit.

When you see them at next week’s rodeo, be sure to say hello and grab a ticket – you’ll be meeting two local legends.
